Documentation appears to show Paypal can accept recurring payments, and it appears to me to require no further setup that to enable credentials. I use Paypal as my gateway for credit cards as well, and all that works.

Can I select Paypal Express for this or do I have to configure Website payments Standard. I have Payments Pro setup for credit cards. I am just a bit perplexed at how the next payment happens under Express? Does the cart send some sort of saved token that enables the payment?

You could also tell me to "relax, enable Express, it will work fine."

    Paul Smeulders.

With PayPal Express you can accept recurring payment provided you enable reference transactions as described in details here

Internally there is a token stored that allows it to perform future transactions.
